In Swanage we have the 5 "S" within our history: Swine farming, Stone, Steam, Sunny holidays, and Smuggling.
The Smugglers loved to hide in all the quars dotted around the Purbeck coastline, selling there goods to all the local people. There is even said to be a secret tunnel from Durlston Country Park down to the centre of Swanage!
Needless to say, there are also plenty of stories about these sneaky smugglers. Look out for the ghost of the young smuggler, shoot on a foggy night, at Worth Matravers. See if you can catch a glimpse of Harry's lanterns along the headland of Ballard Down.
