Just like any good castle, Corfe has had its fair share of creepy inhabitants. This gateway to the Isle of Purbeck has always had a defence role to play, even before we were building out of stone. Corfe has had an important role to play in many historical stories, including the death of Edward the Martyr and the glamourous parties in the glorette.
Anybody heard about the escaping French knights, this story made it in to the news of the day, as the only known escape from an oubliette. And as for a lady defeating and English Army, well Corfe has it all.
Not only an exciting place to visit, it has also provided inspiration for storey writters and film producers. Even Walt Disney used the Castle in one of his movies, but which one?
